What is the Applied IoT Cluster?

The Applied IoT Cluster harnesses the expertise, skills, imaginations and equipment of five Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateways and specialises in applying state of the art internet of things (IoT) technologies to new and existing products, processes and services. Companies and individuals throughout Ireland are capitalising on the research and development resources available across the cluster to develop new and innovative ways of applying sensors, communications, networks, software, machine learning, artificial intelligence (AI), augmented/virtual reality (AR/VR) and data analytics to solve existing problems and develop new ideas to enhance their business.

How can the Applied IoT Cluster help?

Working with the Applied IoT cluster opens up many areas of opportunity for Irish businesses. Companies who choose to collaborate with Applied IoT can avail of the considerable interconnected resources available within the member Gateways, achieving a cohesive and timely approach to innovation. Their dedicated team of Gateway Managers, engineers, researchers and Business Development personnel works with a wide range of companies on projects of all sizes. Through collaboration and the sharing of a wealth of expertise, knowledge and experience with over 150 colleagues across the cluster, Applied IoT is very well equipped to provide research, development and deployment of a broad selection of innovative solutions for Irish industry.

What equipment is available through the cluster?

Applied IoT has access to an extensive range of equipment situated within Institutes of Technology and Technological Universities across Ireland. If you require an “Advanced Manufacturing Testbed” to investigate suitable industrial IoT sensor technologies, are looking to implement “Robotic Cells” in your factory, require access to “Virtual Reality / Augmented Reality Labs” to test or trial equipment, want to gain access to” LoRa” or “Energy Test Beds”, our cluster gateways are equipped to accommodate your requirements.

How can working with the Applied IoT Cluster benefit Irish Industry?

From sensors to process implementation, the Applied IoT Cluster provides world-class RD&I services to companies nationwide. Working within the cluster means that should your project require expertise from multiple gateways, this transition will be managed inhouse by your lead Gateway Manager. This continuity helps to create efficiencies in the process as well as adherence to budgetary and timeline constraints. The cluster’s broad experience in delivery of near-to-market solutions has provided an array of benefits to many companies during their journey from product to market and in some cases have become an integral part in the ongoing research and development activities undertaken within these organisations.

What companies are eligible?

The cluster is open to companies of any size so whether you’re a start-up, SME, or multinational, the Applied IoT’s dedicated Technology Gateway managers and staff are available to assist with all aspects of your current or next RD&I project. The Applied IoT Cluster is actively engaged in projects with companies who are clients of various Local Enterprise Offices, Enterprise Ireland, the IDA and sole-traders.
