Overview

The Enterprise Ireland Medical and Engineering Technologies (MET) Gateway is an interdisciplinary applied research centre, dedicated to supporting Research, Development and Innovation activities in the MedTech, LifeSciences and Engineering sectors. Located in Galway-Mayo Institute of Technology’s Galway campus, the MET Technology Gateway provides open access for industry to the academic expertise within GMIT, generating solutions for close-to-market needs to companies.

Working within the Enterprise Ireland Technology Gateway Network of 16 specialised Gateways and sectoral clusters, we deliver innovation, expertise and solutions for Irish industry. The Applied IOT, Irish FoodTech and Engineering Materials and Design (EMD) clusters, comprise of multiple gateways working together to provide specialist support and expertise. Operated in partnership with the Institutes of Technology and Technological Universities, these clusters offer access to the academic and technological expertise within each institute.

Rockfield Medical Devices is an innovative medical device company based in Galway. The mission of the company is to focus on human centered design process as its main R&D driver in all areas of healthcare. Rockfield have developed a strong pipeline of innovative products and built strong partnership with end-users, academia and healthcare staff.

Process monitoring and automation are the principle means of reducing production costs, improving process continuity and product quality. The availability of low-cost, smart sensors make process monitoring a compelling, low-risk opportunity for many industries. It is the basis for both predictive maintenance, and real-time process control

Monitoring and sensor technologies are components of automated processes, which serves to reduce waste, improve quality of work and provide a basis for continual improvement.  Automation and process monitoring technologies are readily accessible to organisations of all sizes and underpin competitiveness in terms of cost and quality. This webinar will explore the methods and technologies required for implementing or enhancing monitoring and automation in SME's.

He is a Science Foundation Ireland (SFI) Funded Investigator in the CONFIRM Smart Manufacturing Centre. He was the PI of an SFI SIRG project - VidSDN from 2015 to 2018. He was the PI of Enterprise Ireland funded COMAND Technology Gateway and SUNAT Applied Research Enhancement projects from 2007 to 2014.
