Advanced Nano Technologies is an early-stage company developing a new portable solution for Raman spectroscopic measurements, which are commonly used in chemistry to provide a structural fingerprint by which molecules can be identified.

The company is developing new tool called the ‘Flipper’, which is designed to be a lightweight portable Raman spectroscope. Advanced Nano Technologies wanted to test its capability and accuracy against a higher-end machine and also across a variety of materials that it could measure.

Innovation Voucher

“CAPPA has demonstrated professionalism, efficiency, initiative, expertise and above all a very clear understanding of the need to address our industrial requirements. The company will have absolutely no hesitation in working with CAPPA in the future and will be recommending their services to others. We expect, given the very good test results from the Innovation Voucher scheme, to be able to produce some product applications notes for pharmaceutical forensics that we believe will help the marketing of our novel technology. We would like to collaborate with CAPPA in delivering a new generation of spectroscopic application technologies for the pharmaceutical industry, forensics, medicine, biotechnology, and environmental science.”

The Advanced Nano Technologies & CAPPA partnership

Being highly active in this area, the CAPPA Gateway was able to provide a detailed and extensive comparative study of the performance of the instrument. Advanced Nano Technologies also had access to a range of materials that were used to look at measurement variation and consistency. The Gateway was able to advise on particular improvements that could be made and hopes to continue to work with the company in developing a new version of the tool.

An Innovation Voucher from Enterprise Ireland provided the company with access to experienced R&D personnel, detailed analysis of the operation of the unit and performance goals, the ability to use facilities in other sites as appropriate, and structured testing and benchmarking.
