Based at the Atlantic Technological University, the MET Technology Gateway offers a range of applied technologies relevant to companies in the product engineering and design application phase. Our technology offering includes a purpose-built Medical Imaging Suite, boasting a state-of-the-art Philips Azurion digital fluoroscope. Our expertise in Anatomical Modelling and Physiological Replication involves the translation of medical data (MRI’s, ultrasounds, etc.) into engineering data and from there into clinically relevant anatomical models.

MET also specialise in developing advanced simulation systems that can replicate the associated physiological parameters. Our anatomical models and simulation systems can be used in conjunction with our medical imaging technologies to establish clinically-relevant simulated use conditions, which can be used to assess the performance of prototypes devices, for clinician feedback, and, for design verification and validation testing.

MET also has expertise in data analytics and the visualisation of clinical data to inform the design of the next generation of medical device prototypes. We also provide services in Design Engineering and Verification – offering a range of supporting technologies, such as CAD design; rapid prototyping, critique and brainstorming; and materials and product characterisation.

With leading expertise in Nutrition and Sports Science, the MET research team can assist the food industry in all aspects of novel food development. The team have the knowledge and skills to test and modify the impact of foods on physiological and metabolic parameters. Additionally, the range of sports testing equipment and technologies available at the centre enables companies to develop foods and strategies specific to athletes and those involved in sport.

“The neurovascular models developed by MET played an important role in Neuravi’s EmboTrap device development, and we also use these models in training stroke doctors in our technology. The work has made an important contribution to the successful treatment of acute ischemic stroke patients with our device.”
